Maximising the quantity and quality of speaking practice is the overriding objective, so as much group-work and pair-work as possible is carried out. A topic-based approach is used, and students read articles on the topics before each class. Problem solving tasks, questionnaires and short speeches are used extensively. Often students are asked to report back to the class, or repeat an activity with different partners, so that they can work on improving their performance. I also ask students to write and correct transcripts of one of their oral tests, as this can increase their self-awareness and help improve accuracy.
